More Gas Pump Card Skimmers Found In Arizona
The Arizona Department of Agriculture's Weights and Measures Services Division on Friday said more gas pump skimmers are popping up statewide.
The tally for this year is close to 60 sites.
Authorities said two skimmers were found Sept. 26, and several were discovered in August.
Michelle Wilson, spokeswoman for the Weights and Measures Services Division, said the majority of the 89 devices at 58 sites found so far in 2019 are in the Phoenix metro area.
“We do tend to find more within the Valley. But we are finding them throughout the state, generally near freeways. Any time we’re at a gas station we check for skimming devices and then when we find a skimming device we usually do a concerted effort to check in that general area,” she said.
Wilson recommended not using a debit card because scammers will have access to your PIN.
