Arizona Unemployment Rate Continues To Decline
The Arizona unemployment rate fell slightly in May to 5.8 percent, but it’s still higher than the national average of 5.5 percent.
The private sector added 1,700 jobs last month. The biggest increases were in professional and business services and education and health services. Government lost 12,200 jobs in the last month, a portion of those are school employees who are off for the summer.
Since last May, the unemployment rate is down 1.1 percent.
"We’ve had four months of fairly dramatic reductions in the unemployment rate in the state of Arizona. We’ve gone form 6.5 percent of unemployment to 5.8 percent since the Super Bowl," said State Labor Marketing Information Director Paul Shannon.
Over the year, job losses were in the manufacturing, information and natural resources and mining industries.
