Wi-Fi Could Soon Be Coming To Lake Mead Recreation Area
Visitors to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area may soon have access to high-speed Wi-Fi in the southern Nevada park. Officials there say the main goal is to provide a more modern experience to patrons who want to share aspects of their trip during their stay.
Public safety was another motivation for adding Wi-Fi access as several areas of the park have spotty or no cell reception available in case of an emergency.
Park spokesperson Christie Vanover says officials are working up a contract now but will be gathering public feedback before finalizing anything.
"But we want to make sure that they’re OK with us adding some antennas to some of our historic bathrooms and looking at the view shed. So we encourage people to go onto our website, look at what the plan is and give us their thoughts before we move forward," Vanover said.
The public comment period will be open until April 2.
