Cell-Service Providers Gear Up For Influx Of Final Four Fans
Cell-service providers are getting their infrastructure in Phoenix geared up to handle an influx of sports fans. Officials are expecting data usage to follow past patterns and show an increase from the year before.
AT&T, for example, is reporting a 900 percent increase in data usage for the final four games since 2012, which is why it says it’ll be bringing in 2 temporary cell towers to the city this week as well as upgrading its antenna systems in the stadium and convention center areas.
Scott Husher, an AT&T spokesman, said, "Customers used 7.1 terabytes of data last year at the events so we’re expecting an increase again this year."
Husher says the telecommunications company has spent about $2 million to prepare for the events.
