The Arizona Cardinals’ starting quarterback Carson Palmer is out for the rest of the season, a few days after signing a three-year contract extension. Palmer suffered a serious knee injury in Sunday’s win against St. Louis.

He was injured in the fourth quarter, barely touched by a St. Louis player, during a quarterback sack. He twisted his left knee and tore his ACL. Palmer was taken off the field on a golf cart and the severity of his injury was unknown until Monday.

The Cardinals came from behind with back-up quarterback Drew Stanton to defeat the Rams 31-14.  The Cards are 8-1, the best season start for the franchise since 1948. The 34-year-old Palmer vows he will play football again and hopes it will be with the Cardinals.

The Cardinals host Detroit next Sunday.
