Relative Of Former Arizona State Senator Injured In California Synagogue Shooting
A shooting Saturday at a synagogue in Poway, California, near San Diego, left one person dead and several people injured. Among those hurt was the 90-year-old uncle of former Arizona state Sen. David Schapira.
He said his uncle was not shot, but did injure his arm while dropping to the ground to avoid gunfire.
“He was a little disoriented," Schapira said about his uncle. "But that can be attributed to the fact that he’s 90 years old and just went through a pretty serious trauma.”
Schapira said his uncle was able to make it home and get treated there.
A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with the shooting. Authorities in San Diego are referring to the incident as a hate crime.
