Grayson Schmidt is a graduate student at Arizona State University pursuing a master’s degree in mass communication. He comes to KJZZ after a previous internship at KTAR-FM and a three-year stint as a daily reporter in Ames, Iowa. In addition to his role at KJZZ, Schmidt is a photographer/videographer on Cronkite News’ Digital Production team.

Though his family moved him all over the place (five states and another country), he considers himself a native Iowan. After graduating from THE University of Iowa in 2015 with a degree in journalism, Schmidt worked as the crime/public safety reporter for The Ames Tribune before deciding he’d had enough of the Midwest (mainly the cold).

In his spare time, Schmidt enjoys college football, live music, craft beer and dive bars, as well as writing and performing anything comedy (standup, sketch, or improv).
